Indonesia

Indonesia is a country in Southeast Asia and Oceania between the Indian and Pacific oceans. It consists of over 17,000 islands, including Sumatra, Java, Sulawesi, and parts of Borneo and New Guinea. Indonesia is the world's largest archipelagic state and the 14th-largest country by area, at 1,904,569 square kilometres (735,358 square miles). With over 278 million people, Indonesia is the world's fourth-most populous country and the most populous Muslim-majority country. Java, the world's most populous island, is home to more than half of the country's population.

As the largest archipelagic country in the world, Indonesia is blessed with so many different people, cultures, customs, traditions, artworks, food, animals, plants, landscapes, and everything that made it almost like 100 (or even 200) countries melted beautifully into one. Every island here is a unique mixture of natural splendors and different cultures of people who live upon it; from the vibrant tourists’ paradises of Bali and Lombok to the mysteriously shrouded cultures of the Asmat in Papua and those who dwell the highlands of Toraja in South Sulawesi.

Indonesia is famous as a country rich in spices. Through the "Indonesia Spice Up the World" program, the Indonesian Government and stakeholders are targeting to promote Indonesian culinary and spices at the international level. European countries and Japan colonized Indonesia partly because Indonesia was rich in spices which became a magnet that attracted Europeans and took control of Indonesia.

Rafflesia Arnoldii, an indigenous flower to the islands of Sumatra, is the largest individual flower weighing up to 8kgs. It has a powerful unpleasant odour and is also known as the corpse flower, ensuring you will smell the flower long before you see it.

An exciting fact about Indonesia now is that dragons do exist here. Komodo dragon is one of the fascinating animals in Indonesia. It is the giant lizard in the world and can only be found in Indonesia. Be careful, though, as they are known to be maneaters.
